Week of Prayer & Fasting

We believe that when we pray, God hears us and responds! We are inviting you to join us for our week of Prayer and Fasting!  January 24 - 31 (Wednesday to Wednesday)

We will mark the beginning of the week with an in-person event: the Increase Prayer Summit on January 24th at 7:00pm in the Worship Centre—Central Campus. We will have an evening of worship, along with healing, intercessory, and listening prayer for one another. Come join us as we seek God in prayer!

In addition to this event, we the people of Centre Street Church will engage in two personal practices of prayer and fasting during this week, as we implore God for… Increase!

Our first practice is the 12@12 call to prayer. Please pause and pray for 12 minutes at noon each of the seven days for an:

  • Increase… in the light of Jesus across Calgary and for darkness to decrease.
  • Increase… in people coming to faith in Christ as Savior.
  • Increase... in healing for those who are suffering, confused, and are living in bondage; and liberty for those who are trapped in injustices in Calgary.
  • Increase… in spiritual maturity for all followers of Christ in Calgary.

The second practice combines both prayer and fasting. Depending on your schedule, we encourage you to set aside a specific time to pray and fast daily. The essence of this time is to delight in God and ponder who He says He is and who He is for us.

To that effect, we have prepared seven “Do not forget” documents – containing a meditation and a prayer guide based on Psalm 103—for each day of the week. The meditation document will guide you into thinking about Him and the prayer guide will help you identify specific elements of God's nature, as well as praying for Centre Street Church as we enter 2024.

Additionally, we have prepared a Fasting from Food Guide to help you know how to safely fast (and break a fast), and how to engage in self-denial throughout the week. Fasting is not restricted to food only but can include denying oneself from anything the Spirit of Jesus invites us to fast from. Fasting is a mysterious and sacred practice that opens the way for us to encounter Christ at a deeper level. Jesus challenged us when he said, “If you would be My disciple you must live a life of self-denial; take up the cross of obedience daily; and follow the path I have for you to live” (Luke 9:23).
